Graham Spice

Match in Amsterdam:
Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur – 3 March 2019

Year of Birth:

Where are you from?
I was born in Enfield, north London.

Where do you live now?
Hampshire, near Farnborough.

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Pretty much since I was a kid.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
I was first taken [to a match] by my granddad. He was a steward at the time; he’s been a life-long fan himself, and he was a councillor in the area as well. So I’ve got photographs of my family, of my grandparents and my mum, holding the cups from the double-winning season. With the open-top bus. And there’s a Pathé news reel of the players arriving back at the Town Hall, and my granddad is in that video. So it’s a real family thing – there was no escape from it! My dad’s not a big fan but it was always my grandparents.

What was the first game you went to?
I think it was against Bolton? I was a long time ago! But I remember we won and it was 3-2, I think? That would’ve been mid-’70s. I don’t remember who scored; I was really young.

Who is your all-time favourite player?
Hoddle. He could just do anything with a ball. He was a magician. He lives near me actually. He lives in Finchampstead, quite close to me.

Who is your favourite player currently?
I can’t not love Son. But actually, this season, I think Sissoko has been amazing! Because it’s one of those great stories of, you know, having been so bad and he’s been brilliant this season, and we’ve really relied on him a lot. And I think his drive in midfield has saved us a lot this season. I’ve got a lot of time for him, I really have.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
That would be the Inter Milan Champions League game at White Hart Lane. We won 3-1. Probably closely followed by the Real Madrid game last season [also 3-1], and both the Dortmund games at Wembley! But, the Inter game, because it was at White Hart Lane. I think Pavlyuchenko got one, Crouch and Van der Vaart.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Mostly because I’ve got a really terrible memory, so this season, probably Son’s goal against Chelsea when he basically went past about three of them, cut inside and then scored with his left. That was amazing!

Final score prediction?
We’ll probably lose 1-0. I’m ever the optimist!
