How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
That would be about 50 years.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
Difficult to answer. Just because they were the big club in the 1960s. My whole family were West Ham and maybe I just wanted to be a bit different! Tottenham Hotspur. Nice name. Jimmy Greaves, big player. So it wasn’t very logical, but there you go.

What was the first game you went to?
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton, 27 March 1967. We won 2-0. Mullery and Gilzean. Attendance 46,9017.

Who is your all-time favourite player?
That’s so difficult to answer… such a difficult question. Can I give more than one player? So obviously Jimmy Greaves… but honourable mentions for Martin Chivers, Steve Perryman, Ledley King and Osvaldo Ardiles. Those would be my top five.

Who is your favourite player currently?
Harry Kane.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
Well I did see them play against Nottingham Forest, quarter-finals of the FA Cup, 13 February 1970 and we beat them 2-1. Gilzean and Chivers scored, 46,000.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
That’s another difficult one. I’ve never really thought about that. Possibly Ricky Villa when he made his debut away at Nottingham Forest, 1979 and he dummied, and he beat, Shilton from about 10 yards out. Yeah, that was a great goal.

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Since 30 October 2011.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
I’d always wanted to visit some matches in England since I was very young. And it was kind of randomly back then that it was a Spurs match that was my first English match to visit. I wanted to experience the pure atmosphere at an English game, and I preferred to travel to London. I wanted to visit a Premier League match and Arsenal I didn’t like already back then, and same for Chelsea and for West Ham I was neutral. So I just gave it a try at Tottenham… but at the same time it was as though I’d got infected with some kind of virus!

What was the first game you went to?
It was on 30 October 2011, a home game against QPR (Queens Park Rangers) at White Hart Lane. The score was 3-1 Spurs. I think Bale scored twice and Van der Vaart got the other.

Who is your all-time favourite player?
All time is hard to say, seeing as I’ve only followed Spurs since 2011, but I would say Kane.

Who is your favourite player currently?
For this moment, maybe Son. I mean, I’m quite impressed by the way he performs. All the effort he puts in for Spurs, so many games, he’s always there, he never complains about what he needs to do, about which position. You know, he really sacrifices himself for the team, and that’s something that I can really appreciate.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
That was against Arsenal. In February 2015. This was my first and so far only north London derby. I went there with a friend of mine – to White Hart Land – and we won 2-1. So at half-time it was one nil Arsenal (I think Ozil scored) and in the second half, Kane scored twice… I think once in the 65 minute, the equaliser, and then just before the end of the game, the winning header! And he ran to the East Stand, where I was sitting and celebrated. So, yeah, this is definitely the best match I’ve ever been to in a stadium.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Live? Probably Kane’s header against Arsenal.

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Well, most of my friends have been Tottenham forever, but I’m a recent fan. Maybe a year or two?

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
Because all my friends are Spurs fans, and then Sanchez – the Colombian guy – joined Spurs, so I was like, ‘all right, I guess this is the perfect chance to join the team!’

What was the first game you went to?
Yeah, when they came to US for the summer tour, we went to a national game against Man City (it was not good; we lost 3-0 or 4-1, but it was my first official Spurs game)… and we just went to London for the derby against Arsenal on Saturday.

Who is your all-time favourite player?
Well, you know, I’m a recent Spurs fan, so all my support goes to Sanchez. He’s Colombian, so I’ve got to support him. And I actually got him to sign my jersey about two or three months ago in Tampa

Who is your favourite player currently?
Miguel: I have to say Sanchez again, yep!
Muriel: I like Son; he’s very handsome. And he’s a good player, of course!

What was the best (live) game you went to?
Oh, definitely the derby on Saturday. I mean Tottenham Arsenal, being in England for a Premier League game – it was just awesome. An amazing experience. Absolutely.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Live? Well, I’ve only ever been to two games, so I guess that penalty at that game we just went to. I mean Spurs Arsenal, at Wembley, that was just great. I mean, we went crazy!

Name: Lee Illing

Year of Birth: 1976

Match in Amsterdam: Tottenham v Arsenal – 2 March 2019

Where are you from?
Originally from Tottenham, Lordship Lane.

Where do you live now?
Leicester

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Since 1976. All my life! No choice, mate.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
Family. Tottenham. Dad. That’s it mate, all the way. I’m a glutton for punishment!

What was the first game you went to?
Tottenham v Liverpool in 1982. We won 2-0, Steve Archibald scored both goals. I still remember it…

Who is your all-time favourite player?
If I was to go all the way back, all the way back to my favourite player when I was a kid growing up, everyone liked Glenn Hoddle… but I was probably Gary Mabbutt all the way through.

Who is your favourite player currently?
I’m going to say Winksy [Harry Winks]. I love him. I just think he’s brilliant. He’s comes through the ranks, he’s a proper player. He’s one of our own, in’ he? When he plays for England, I love him as well. I reckon he’ll get the perfect hat-trick one day, and I’ll be there. Love it!

What was the best (live) game you went to?
Best game ever? 3-1 Arsenal, ’91. Gascoigne 1, Lineker 2. I was there!

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Glenn Hoddle against Oxford [United in 1986/87], his last goal.

Name: Simon Wilson

Year of Birth: 1983

Match in Amsterdam: Tottenham v Leicester City – 10 February 2019

Where are you from?
Arudel, West Sussex

Where do you live now?
Bruce Grove, Tottenham

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Since I was about 7 years old.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
I was originally a ‘glory supporter’ in 1991, basically, when we won the cup… and that was when I was electing a team, when I lived down South. Mainly because of Gazza and Lineker. Yeah, so you could’ve called me a glory supporter back in the day but not so much now.

What was the first game you went to?
Spurs v Portsmouth (at White Hart Lane about 10 years ago or so). I didn’t start going to games until much later on. But when I was living in Bournemouth, I used to drive up and down and try to see every game and build up as many loyalty points as possible. But the second game I ever went to was the 9-1 against Wigan).

Who is your all-time favourite player?
It’s a bit of a random one, but I like Jermain Defoe. I’m a big JD fan―a massive, massive JDF fan! I’ve met him a couple of times and he’s a lovely bloke as well.

Who is your favourite player currently?
Currently… I’ve got to go with Harry Kane. How can you not? He’s one of our own.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
That’s a tough one because I’ve been to a few decent games. I would say, for me, a couple of years ago, when we played Chelsea and we beat them 2-0… and you remember when Dele Alli was running along and he jumped into the crowd, well if you look closely enough, you’ll see me jump in and grab hold of Dele Alli, so yeah, that one sticks out in my mind because of the celebrations for the first goal.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Harry Kane’s one against Arsenal, when he curled it top-bins after they recovered the ball just off the by-line. Yeah, that one was on my birthday as well, so extra special.

Champions League Double Header, Dortmund and Real Madrid

12 Feb

Both our favourite clubs are playing tomorrow, Ajax host Real Madrid at the ArenA and Spurs host Dortmund at Wembley. A bunch of folks are going to both games so look out for any of our flags flying around. For those not going, we’ll be in the snug bar in O’Reilly’s, just off Dam Square, for a kick off at 21:00. We’re reliably informed that both games will be watchable from the same spot so a good place to catch them.
