Name: Spencer & Melissa Wolinski

Match in Amsterdam: Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham – 3 March 2019

Year of Birth: Spencer 1979; Melissa 1979

Where are you from?
Charlotte, North Carolina

Where do you live now?
Charlotte, North Carolina

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Maybe a dozen years.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
In Charlotte I have a friend who’s British, who’s actually a Liverpool supporter, but he made a joke one day about how I should be a Spurs fan because I’m Jewish. So then I looked into it and kind of thought, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah, that certainly makes sense!’ I mean, growing up, it’s never really been a cool thing to be Jewish… at all. So as soon as I saw that, saw the connection, and the whole ‘Yiddo thing’, it was absolutely meant to be! So that’s it.

What was the first game you went to?
So the first one was in New York. Not in England, but they come over to the States every few years. I think the first game was close to 10 years ago probably. They played the New York Red Bulls and that was good. I feel like it was 2-1 Spurs. I’m pretty sure we won by a goal. Robbie Keane scored… and I don’t remember the rest.

Who is your all-time favourite player?
Gareth Bale. At the time when he first started playing, and he was barely playing and we lost every game when he was playing… You know, I’ve played myself all my life, and so at the time, I was playing left-back and so he was the guy who started playing here and there and he played left-back and he was pretty quick, and I said, I’m kind of digging this guy. I joked, and my friends at home joked with me that I’m like the ‘proud dad’, you know, watching him go that to what he became… I’ve just got this crazy love for the guy! Which I’m sure many other people do. It absolutely broke my heart when he left. I’ve never been more upset with when a player left somewhere. That was just awful.

Who is your favourite player currently?
Spencer: Erik Lamela. Which is controversial, I know. Again, with me playing soccer myself, I feel like I kind of relate to him, a bit. He’s not by any means the best player on the pitch! But when he’s on he’s one hundred percent, constantly. And I’ve kind of got a reputation for always having a yellow card in me… So he’s a pretty chippy player that’s usually going to get in some kind of trouble.

Melissa: Dele Ali because he’s fun to watch. He makes a little bit of trouble and I like that! And he’s pretty good.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
Honestly, I have to say it was the other day – it was Saturday (Tottenham v Arsenal). Just because that was our first time catching them over here. It finished 1-1, which wasn’t three points, but I’ll take it, given the way that it started. We were hoping it would be the new stadium, but it was Wembley. So we’ll definitely be back next season for the new one.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
I’d be tempted to say (David) Bentley’s against Arsenal. Bale had a handful that I like. I remember his one against City, which was the third goal that game (2013) when he chipped the keeper. Actually, Bale again in the San Siro

Can you predict the final score tonight?
1-0 Spurs (actual score: 1-0 Spurs).

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Since 1976. All my life! No choice, mate.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
Family. Tottenham. Dad. That’s it mate, all the way. I’m a glutton for punishment!

What was the first game you went to?
Tottenham v Liverpool in 1982. We won 2-0, Steve Archibald scored both goals. I still remember it…

Who is your all-time favourite player?
If I was to go all the way back, all the way back to my favourite player when I was a kid growing up, everyone liked Glenn Hoddle… but I was probably Gary Mabbutt all the way through.

Who is your favourite player currently?
I’m going to say Winksy [Harry Winks]. I love him. I just think he’s brilliant. He’s comes through the ranks, he’s a proper player. He’s one of our own, in’ he? When he plays for England, I love him as well. I reckon he’ll get the perfect hat-trick one day, and I’ll be there. Love it!

What was the best (live) game you went to?
Best game ever? 3-1 Arsenal, ’91. Gascoigne 1, Lineker 2. I was there!

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Glenn Hoddle against Oxford [United in 1986/87], his last goal.

Where are you from?
Lincoln, Nebraska

Match in Amsterdam: Burnley v Tottenham – 23 February 2019

Where do you live now?
Lincoln, Nebraska

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
For about 6 or 7 years probably. Since they started playing in the US.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
Well, in the States they didn’t play many games, and then they starting playing a lot of matches here. So I wanted to pick a team. I saw them playing and their style of play made me like Tottenham and choose them as my team.

What was the first game you went to?
Tottenham v Leicester, 2015. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick!

Who is your all-time favourite player?
Clint Dempsey, the American

Who is your favourite player currently?
I like Harry, Harry Kane. It’s hard not to like him; he works so hard.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
It has to be the Leicester game. We had great seats. We were fourth row, right behind the goal. Really close to the action… and it was my first game at the old ground.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
In that game probably. Like live? The best live goal? Well, at that match it was the best because Harry scored a penalty kick and we were so close to it, we could watch the run up and everything. It was so great, you know.

Name: Simon Wilson

Year of Birth: 1983

Match in Amsterdam: Tottenham v Leicester City – 10 February 2019

Where are you from?
Arudel, West Sussex

Where do you live now?
Bruce Grove, Tottenham

How long have you been a Tottenham Hotspur supporter?
Since I was about 7 years old.

Why did you start supporting Tottenham Hotspur?
I was originally a ‘glory supporter’ in 1991, basically, when we won the cup… and that was when I was electing a team, when I lived down South. Mainly because of Gazza and Lineker. Yeah, so you could’ve called me a glory supporter back in the day but not so much now.

What was the first game you went to?
Spurs v Portsmouth (at White Hart Lane about 10 years ago or so). I didn’t start going to games until much later on. But when I was living in Bournemouth, I used to drive up and down and try to see every game and build up as many loyalty points as possible. But the second game I ever went to was the 9-1 against Wigan).

Who is your all-time favourite player?
It’s a bit of a random one, but I like Jermain Defoe. I’m a big JD fan―a massive, massive JDF fan! I’ve met him a couple of times and he’s a lovely bloke as well.

Who is your favourite player currently?
Currently… I’ve got to go with Harry Kane. How can you not? He’s one of our own.

What was the best (live) game you went to?
That’s a tough one because I’ve been to a few decent games. I would say, for me, a couple of years ago, when we played Chelsea and we beat them 2-0… and you remember when Dele Alli was running along and he jumped into the crowd, well if you look closely enough, you’ll see me jump in and grab hold of Dele Alli, so yeah, that one sticks out in my mind because of the celebrations for the first goal.

What was the best goal you’ve ever seen?
Harry Kane’s one against Arsenal, when he curled it top-bins after they recovered the ball just off the by-line. Yeah, that one was on my birthday as well, so extra special.
